Applewood Winery Blog

Read about whats going on with Applewood Winery.

Bounty Of The HdusonBounty of the Hudson was a BLAST!  Tasted so many great wines.  Hudson Valley really has it going on with their winemaking.  Hats off to Jason, Jeremy & Randi of WV winery for doing a great job on Bounty.  Michelle & Jennifer did a fantastic job and really enjoyed themselves (but not too much.)  They sold a ton of Stone Fence Hard Cider.

Picnic In The VineyardThe staff at the winery works pretty hard to make sure everyone has a great time.  So I decided to reward them by treating them to a Picnic in our vineyard.  It was a good thing I only brought a case of wine with us or some of the staff would still be up there.

Fire Pit at Peconic

Michele by the fire pit at Peconic Winery on the North Fork.  We paid a visit to our friend Cynthia Caprise who works there.  We're considering putting in one at Applewood but are concerned our Wino's might use it for some Pagan ritual.

Here are the two recipes Chef Suzanne made for aour Around The World Event with the Shawangunk Wine Trail.

A Contractor was at the Winery yesterday and asked "Where do you get your flavors from?"  Now at first blush a winemaker might respond from the soil, the Sun and the weather.  But then I realized this fellow was being quite literal.  He thought that flavors were something you purchased and put into the wine like a margarita mix.

Here are the recipes from the New York Riesling Experience courtesy of our Chef Suzanne Donovan.  The event was a great success and people really enjoyed her pairings with the different Rieslings.  One of the big hits of the event was a dry sparkling Riesling which we made just for the event.  It was so popular that we intend to bottle some for a Wino Club selection in the future.

I'm excited about the 2010 NY Riesling Experience because Riesling is the most interesting, nuanced and thought provoking grape in the world.

I recently sat down with Debbie Giaquindo "The Hudson Valley Wine Goddess" (Wow, a real goddess!) who has her own blog  http://hvwinegoddess.blogspot.com/and answered a few questions for her.
